SOMETHING FUNNY ABOUT ICELAND (BESIDES THEIR ECONOMY)

"Greenland is full of ice, and Iceland is very nice."

Reveille Productions has acquired the rights to The Nightshift, an Icelandic workplace comedy show, centered around "three eccentric gas-station employees working the graveyard shift who try to stay motivated between run-ins with wacky customers." Who among us haven't imagined the hilarious hijinks that must go on after hours at a gas station. But it won't be all freak gasoline fights and pee jokes.
"Nightshift," which uses the parade of gas station customers to touch on social issues, is considered the most successful local comedy series in Iceland's television history. (Note: Population of Iceland = 304,367).
When you take into account how many of those people have television, then how many of those people are related to or know someone on the crew, it's not all that impressive.
"'The Nightshift' is that rare international format that has American sensibility, and we're eager to tackle another workplace comedy after the success of 'The Office,'" said Howard Owens, managing director of Reveille. "The show has a smart, ironic point of view, which we know will translate well in the U.S."
I don't know how a show can have American sensibility as well as a smart, ironic point of view. I get the feeling the complete series DVD for this will contain all 6 episodes.
